The IT industry has never been closed to women

I am Polina Trofimova. I have been working for Digital Design for over 20 years — one of the leading software developers and IT integrators in Russia. Now I manage IT projects to create large portals on the Sitefinity platform and SumMeet logging systems. This is my story in the IT business.

IT has replaced space

I graduated from Voenmekh with a degree in “Control Systems for Aircraft and Spacecraft”, but in the mid-90s there was no work on space topics, so I had to lower the bar. I started working at the Information and Computing Center of the October Railway. There were control systems there too, but for the transportation process. I wrote programs in Clipper, GUPTA and SQL Base, and was involved in their installation and support.

Then I moved to Digital Design, where I stayed for a very long time

Due to the scale of the company, the presence of various areas and products, the opportunities for growth and change of activity were almost limitless. I started as an implementation engineer, then I was an analyst, managed custom development projects, was involved in the management and development of BI, ERP systems, organized marketing, partner network and sales of the RAIDIX product.

I didn’t come here to get married, but to study!

It was clear from closed t special database women my student days that an element of provocation would be present in my career. In 1989, there were very few girls at Voenmekh, although our specialty was completely civilian. In specialized subjects, I had to be ready to dispel the doubts of teachers: I did not come here to get married, but to study. More tasks in seminars, more questions in exams – this was my karma. A red diploma became not only a confirmation of the knowledge gained, but also of my strength of character.

In the IT sphere in the times “before

Windows” there closed respond to reviews accordingly to women were also women programmers, but not many. As agb directory a rule, men were engaged in setting tasks and serious development. By the way, Digital Design did not hire women programmers for quite a long time for reasons of principle. There are no such trends now, but at one time there were certain barriers.
